If you ever had the experience of going into work with your parent(s) it is a fond one for sure. Today, April 28th is “Take Your Kid to Work Day” and Bella, (8 years old) will be joining us from 8am – 1pm today, helping turn out some cold brew coffees and working the register with her mother and owner of Johan’s Joe, Laura Klintberg. Here are some shots from the start of her early day, learning how her mother’s coffee shop and restaurant in West Palm Beach operates.
(Above) At 8 years old and familiar with an iPad, Bella is ready to take on her first guest, but spends some time practicing, adding and deleting order items. (Below) Owner of Johans Joe and Mother to Bella, helping her navigate their extensive menu.
(Above) After calculating the change needed for a customer on her own, Laura steps in to show how the computer works to manage time within transactions; Bella was enlightened when hearing that the register automatically calculates the change, every time, at a touch of a button.
After some work, she took a break to let us talk to her about her experience so far, and to tell us about herself. Although this is not her first time in the store, it is her first time behind the counter and when asked, “what are your favorite things to do?” she responded with, “one of my favorite things to do is gymnastics and playing games with my friends.” We went on to ask her if she ever made coffee, and she responded, “No, but Henrick, my brother, is really good at making coffee for my parents at home.” Upon asking her what was her favorite Johan’s Joe menu item, she responded with, “Swedish pancakes and Swedish meatballs” continuing to the final and best course in any child’s eyes, she added, “My favorite dessert is the Cinnamon Buns,” and when asked, “if she preferred with icing or pearled sugar” she responded with a very affirmative, “Both!”
Make sure to catch Bella at Johans Joe Today from 8am-1pm.
